LONG-TERM TESTS
LONG-TERM TESTS (UP TO 5000 HOURS) IN H2 ENVIRONMENT UP TO 1500 BAR
H2 is equipped with a 6 liter static autoclave for the maintenance of conditions in a hydrogen environment at an adjustable pressure,
up to a maximum of 1500 bar. The pressurized hydrogen environment is maintained for the entire duration of the test.
KIH
Fracture mechanics test for the determination of the K threshold value in conditions of propagation of a defect in static conditions:
Long-term test, conducted for 1000 hours or 5000 hours (ferritic or stainless steels, as per ASME code indications)
Most applied regulatory references: ASTM E1681
The specimens have a particular geometry (bolt-load CT) which allows the application of an initial load (constant deviation) by tightening a screw
The specimens are handled (preloaded by tightening the screw) in an inert environment in order to avoid passivation of the crack propagation front
At the end of the exposure period, the specimens are examined under a scanning electron microscope to check whether defect propagation has occurred.
Consequently, the KIH is calculated
